Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Brook Street Chapel?
Brook Street is a small side street off Tottenham High Road in North London, opposite Bruce Grove station. For full contact details, please visit our contact page.

What time are your meetings?
Brook Street Chapel is open at various times during the week. Please see our meetings page for full details.

What sort of a church is Brook Street Chapel?
The Christians who meet together at Brook Street Chapel are a group of ordinary people of different ages, from different backgrounds and cultures, who wish only to be known as Christians or believers in the Lord Jesus Christ. We are not a religious sect or denomination.

We believe the whole Bible to be the inspired Word of God, and our only authority in matters of teaching, practice and conduct. We have found in the Lord Jesus Christ One who is our Saviour and Lord, Friend and Helper. He is someone who gives us peace and strength for daily living and hope for the future.

In a small way we seek to help others come to a similar faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. If you would like to know more about what it means to be a Christian, please visit our What Is A Christian? page.

How long has Brook Street Chapel been here?
The hall was built in 1839, when Tottenham was a wealthy country town on the outskirts of London. The eight founding members, including John Eliot Howard, the distinguished chemist, had met together for Bible study, prayer, worship and preaching from the previous year, and in 1839 built Brooks Street Meeting House, later called Brook Street Chapel. The work of the Lord has continued since then, and we are happy to continue with the work of the assembly today.

Can I come to any of your meetings?
Absolutely! We would be delighted to see you any time you are able to visit.

What happens on a Sunday morning?
The believers at Brook Street meet for the ‘Lord’s Supper’ out of obedience to the command of the Lord Jesus Christ to remember Him (Luke 22:17-20), and to “show forth His death until He come” (1 Corinthians 11:26). The service may include hymns of praise and worship, prayer and Bible reading in harmony with our purpose to remember the Lord Jesus. We then ‘break bread’ (sometimes known as ‘communion’) by sharing bread and wine between ourselves as the Lord did with His disciples. The service is approximately one hour long.

I don’t live near Brook Street Chapel – is there a similar assembly near me?
There are many churches in London and further afield – please contact us and we may be able to direct you to an assembly near you.  This list may also be a good place to start: GospelHall.org.uk
