Anthropologist Douglas Mansur, about happiness in Brazil
November 20, 2019
If Brazil is happy? How do we measure happiness? That is a tough task. The Brazilian people enjoy to show themselves like this, and to sell this image and and self-represent it, what is remarkable. If self-representation is happiness… So, ok! It is remarkable. There is a kind of prejudice of talk about depression or that you need any psychology help. There is sort of common sense which says that if you search a psychologist you probably have a great problem. This is refused socially. It is a sort of coercion due to the “imperative of happiness”. But… Is hard to maintain this performance of happiness, because daily life is not so nice, frequently. The Brazilian workers’ life is related to a nervous way of to live. It is a daily life marked by much suffering in many cases.
