Economic Census How To: 7. Downloading and Uploading the Spreadsheet Template

The download spreadsheet template button is available only to companies with multiple locations listed on the dashboard. This feature allows these companies to download and enter their data into a spreadsheet template that can then be uploaded as a way of completing a survey for multiple locations at once. Each survey that your company is required to fill out has a corresponding spreadsheet. All of the locations associated with that survey will be listed within the spreadsheet. If you need to add locations please do so before downloading the spreadsheet so that they will already be listed in the spreadsheet. From the main dashboard, click the centralized button titled, “Download Spreadsheet Template”. This will bring up the option to select the survey you would like to download to your computer. Simply select the survey or surveys you want to download by clicking on the check boxes then click “Continue” at the bottom of the screen. You will receive a confirmation pop-up. The system will then generate your spreadsheet. If you have many locations it may take longer for your spreadsheet to generate. You may still navigate or even leave the site as you wait for your spreadsheet. Once the spreadsheet is ready, you can view your download directly from the pop-up message or from the messages page. Click the blue “Download” link on the left side of the messages box. The spreadsheet or spreadsheets will come packaged in a .zip file. Once the download is complete, unzip the file to begin entering data into the spreadsheet. To upload your completed spreadsheet click the “Upload Completed Template” button on the main dashboard. This will take you to a new page with instructions on how to upload your spreadsheet. You must use the spreadsheet templates provided on this website or the upload will not be successful. Click the “Browse” button and search through your files to find the completed spreadsheet. Please note that the spreadsheet must be saved as a .xlsx file to upload successfully. You will then receive a notification that your spreadsheet has been successfully uploaded. If the upload was unsuccessful some common problems include modifying column headers, deleting the Form Number column, or deleting the CFN column.
