From DNA Tests to DNA Cures

I’m Erin White with today’s health news. Your
DNA can tell you about your risk for certain diseases — and soon, it could be used to
create cures for those diseases. 23andMe Inc., a DNA testing company that sells
mapping kits to the public for ancestry and medical information, is now looking to expand
its repertoire to use DNA to create medicines, reports Bloomberg Business. The company, which
is partially financed by Google and whose name is inspired by the 23 pairs of chromosomes
found in a cell, is hiring researchers to create drugs that could eventually compete
with or enhance big pharma, Bloomberg reports. Speak with your doctor about new medication
developments for your condition.
