Welcome to the BC Archives. We’re located
in beautiful Victoria, right beside the Royal BC Museum. Our job is to acquire,
preserve and share the documentary heritage of the province. Visit us to
explore not just the history, but the stories of British Columbia. Whether
you’re a seasoned genealogist or a student researching a project, we have
the resources and staff to point you in the right direction. We have millions of
records for you to explore, including 180,000 maps and architectural records,
5,000,000 photographs, 100,000 boxes of textual records, 13,000 audio
recordings, 5,300 video and film titles, 72,000 publications and 10,000 drawings,
paintings and prints. Before you arrive, visit our website to learn more about
the archives and search for records and publications through our online catalogues.
Make sure to take note of the records you are interested in before you arrive.
Once you know what you’d like to see, simply register online for your research
pass and pick it up in person. When you get here, we offer free
access to the Reference Room. Here you can get expert help from
archivists and access technicians. You can access records, view films and
photographs, examine maps, listen to interviews and broadcasts, order copies
of records, and much more. We also host fun and educational events
and tours throughout the year. Check our online calendar to see what’s coming up.
We’re excited to welcome you to the BC Archives, and look forward to helping you
